Some of the Alon and Ruth licenses might be right on the border or possibly passing over into it but on the other hand there might be nothing right in the disputed area. The disputed area between what Israel and Lebanon claims is based on two different methods of setting the border. Israel contends that the maritime border between Israel and Lebanon passes along the equidistant line between the coasts of both countries, namely a line drawn up perpendicular to the coast, whilst Lebanon claims that the line must be drawn in continuation to the coastal border line with the difference being about 15 km in its widest point and in total is something like 1,100 sq km. The border dispute between Israel and Lebanon in fact exists since 1948 but the dispute has been renewed because of the gas discoveries in northern Israel in 2009.
MNI Minister Landau said that Israel had examined with international legal experts the issue of the border between Israel and Lebanon and that the border between Israel and Cyprus is what determines the line between Israel and Lebanon
