Is a temperature scale named after the German physicist Gabriel Fahrenheit (1686-1736), who proposed it in 1724. In this scale, the freezing point of water is 32 degrees Fahrenheit (written “32 ?”), and the boiling point is 212 degrees, placing the boiling and melting points of water 180 degrees apart. To convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, subtract 32, multiply by 5, and divide the product by 9. For example: 100 degrees Fahrenheit – 32=68; 68×5=340; 340/9=37.77 degrees Celsius.
