The intersection of the plane of low water with the shore. The line along a coast, or beach, to which the sea recedes at low water.

It is normal practice for the low water line to be shown as an identifiable feature on nautical charts unless the scale is too small to distinguish it from the high water line or where there is no tide so that the high and low water lines are the same
