A well-logging method in which sound impulses are generated and transmitted into the formations opposite the wellbore.  The time it takes for the sound impulses to travel through the rock is measured and recorded.  Subsequent interpretation of the record (log) permits an estimation of the rock’s porosity and fluid content to be made.

Nigeria which has the 8th largest reserves of natural gas in the world has proven reserves as of 2007 of 181 tcf, followed by Algeria with 161, Egypt with 58, Libya 53, and the rest of Africa 30 tcf. Algeria is a substantial exporter of natural gas and represents over 20% of natural gas supplies to Europe and is also a major supplier to the US

A rotary drilling technique in which compressed air is used instead of fluids to circulate, or bring to the surface, bits of rock and other cuttings from the drill bit

Injecting hydrochloric acid into the channels of a low permeability reservoir to break up and remove rock debris to help improve the flow of oil. It is a method to increase the flow of oil from a well by pumping the acid under high pressure which reopens and enlarges the pores in the oil-bearing limestone formation

A production technique in which an air balance beam pumping unit is used to lift oil to the surface

An elastic body wave or sound wave in which particles oscillate in the direction the wave propagates. P-waves are the waves studied in conventional seismic data

Major natural gas industry trade association, based in Alexandria, Virginia. AGA conducts technical research and helps create standards for equipment and products involved in every facet of the natural gas industry. It also compiles statistics which are considered industry standards

Tool used in topographic surveying

The process of recording the acoustic characteristics of subsurface formations, based on the time required for a sound wave to travel a specific distance through rock.  The rate of travel of the sound wave depends on the composition of the formation, its porosity, and its fluid content
