A clastic sedimentary rock that contains large (greater then two millimeters in diameter) rounded particles. The space between the pebbles is generally filled with smaller particles and/or a chemical cement that binds the rock together

A collective term referring to the continental shelf and continental slope

Completion of a well. The process by which a well is brought to its final classification – basically dry hole, producer, or injector. It is also a generic term used to describe the assembly of downhole tubulars and equipment required to enable safe and efficient production from an oil or gas well. Completion can also be described as an operation intended to complete a well through the Christmas tree as a producer of Petroleum in one or more Zones, including the setting of production casing, perforating, stimulating the well and production testing conducted in such operation. The point at which the completion process begins may depend on the type and design of well.

A grant of access for a defined area and time period that transfers certain rights to hydrocarbons that may be discovered from the host country to an oil and gas corporation. The corporation is generally responsible for exploration, development, production and sale of the hydrocarbons that may be discovered. The concession is typically granted under a legislated fiscal system where the host country collects taxes, fees and sometimes royalty on profits earned. A concession contract is a contract to grant a concession

The change in oil-water or gas-oil contact profiles as a result of drawdown pressure during production. Coning occurs in vertical or slightly deviated wells and is affected by the characteristics of the fluids involved and the ratio of horizontal to vertical permeability

The portion of the sea bottom that slopes gradually from the edge of a continent. Usually defined as areas where water is less than 200 meters deep

The date on which the installation of permanent equipment has been completed as reported to the appropriate regulatory agency. The date of completion of a dry hole is the date of abandonment as reported to the appropriate agency. The date of completion of a service well is the date on which the well is equipped to perform the service for which it was intended

The holder of a concession right

Compliant towers are much like fixed platforms. They consist of a narrow tower, attached to a foundation on the seafloor and extending up to the platform. This tower is flexible, as opposed to the relatively rigid legs of a fixed platform. This flexibility allows it to operate in much deeper water, as it can ‘absorb’ much of the pressure exerted on it by the wind and sea. Despite its flexibility, the compliant tower system is strong enough to withstand hurricane conditions. Suitable for 1,500 – 3,000 feet

Water trapped in the pores of rocks during the formation of the rocks. Salt water occurring with oil and gas in the reservoir
