Without altering the physical form of the energy
Energy is also regarded as a commodity that entities trade in especially as a hedge against the falling dollar and inflation and is one of the contributors for rising oil and gas prices.
Natural gas is sold as a commodity, much like pork bellies, corn, copper, and oil. The basic characteristic of a commodity is that it is essentially the same product no matter where it is located. Natural gas, after processing, fits this description. Commodity markets are inherently volatile, meaning the price of commodities can change often, and at times drastically. Natural gas is no exception; in fact, it is one of the most volatile commodities currently on the market
In order to increase energy savings and efficiency in buildings it is necessary to (1) decrease thermal losses from the building envelope; (2) improve the efficiency of using both fossil and electric energy and (3) convert some of the fossil energy consumed to renewable sources
A mandated restraint in a scheduled timeframe that puts a “ceiling” on the total amount of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions that can be released into the atmosphere. This can be measured as gross emissions or as net emissions (emissions minus gases that are sequestered).
A material that can undergo stress, can deform and then return to its original shape after the stress has finished. In some materials, including rocks, elastic behavior depends on the temperature, intensity and duration of the stress
Energy has several forms, some of which are easily convertible and can be changed to another form useful for work. Most of the world’s convertible energy comes from fossil fuels that are burned to produce heat that is then used as a transfer medium to mechanical or other means in order to accomplish tasks. Electrical energy is usually measured in kilowatt-hours, while heat energy is usually measured in British thermal units (Btu).
Belongs to the U.S. Department of Energy. The EERE mission is to strengthen America’s energy security, environmental quality, and economic vitality in public-private partnerships that: Enhance energy efficiency and productivity; bring clean, reliable and affordable energy technologies to the marketplace; and make a difference in the everyday lives of Americans by enhancing their energy choices and their quality of life. The priorities of the EERE are to: dramatically reduce or even end dependence on foreign oil; reduce the burden of energy prices on the disadvantaged; increase the viability and deployment of renewable energy technologies; increase the reliability and efficiency of electricity generation, delivery, and use; increase the efficiency of buildings and appliances; increase the efficiency/reduce the energy intensity of industry; create the new domestic bioindustry; lead by example through government’s own actions. Israel’s program as lead by the MNI for energy conservation and efficiency is based on FEMP
In an emissions trading program, sources of a particular pollutant (most often an air pollutant) are given permits to release a specified number of tons of the pollutant. The fact that the permits have value as an item to be sold or traded gives the owner an incentive to reduce their emissions.
