Dividend cover ratio, is calculated as the earnings per share-basic (EPS-basic) divided by the annual total dividend amount per share. Dividend cover expresses a company’s ability to pay ordinary dividends to shareholders out of profits earned. It shows how many times the ordinary dividend is covered by the profit available and, for example, if a company pays out one quarter of its profit as dividends, then the dividend cover ratio is four. The calculation is the following: = EPS-basic / annual dividend per share (DPS) >
One of the main strategies of countries to ensure security of energy supply is to diversity the type of fuel (coal, oil, gas, etc.) and the number of suppliers for each fuel. Europe for instance is especially concerned due to its growing dependence on Russia which supplies 25% of the EU’s natural gas needs and fears that Gazprom is attempting to increase its power by winning access to Nigeria’s vast gas supplies. In addition, Russia is also backing moves to form an OPEC-style gas cartel and after the conflict in the summer of 2008 with Georgia, Russia is seen as wanting to re-assert its influence over energy supply routes through the southern Caucasus, which has raised concerns over the EU’s plans for the Nabucco gas pipeline from central Asia
Distillation is the process of heating a liquid until it boils, capturing and cooling the resultant hot vapors, and collecting the condensed vapors. Distillation is a powerful tool, both for the identification and the purification of organic compounds. The boiling point of a compound—determined by distillation—is well-defined and thus is one of the physical properties of a compound by which it is identified. Distillation is used to purify a compound by separating it from a non-volatile or less-volatile material. When different compounds in a mixture have different boiling points, they separate into individual components when the mixture is carefully distilled. The first step in the refining process. During distillation, crude oil is heated in the base of a distillation tower. As the temperature increases, the crude’s various compounds vaporize in succession at their various boiling points, then rise to prescribed levels within the tower according to their densities, condense in distillation trays, and are drawn off individually for further refining
These are features one can see on seismic that are caused by the seismic wave passing through a gas or oil filled section rather than a water filled section. Some DHI’s can also be caused by other geological features which have nothing to do with oil or gas, such as dykes or sills that will generate really good bright anomalies, as can water, wet gravels and anhydrites
As the hole of the well gets deeper, pipe is added to the drill bit to allow it to dig further. These lengths of drill pipe form the drill string
A DST is used to obtain reservoir fluid samples, static bottomhole pressure measurements, indications of productivity and short-term flow and pressure buildup tests to estimate permeability and damage extent. DSTs are performed in the open hole
A heavy, thick-walled steel pipe used in rotary drilling to turn the drill bit and to provide a conduit for the drilling mud.
Clause which demands that the lessee commence drilling operations by a certain date or pay rental, failing which the lease would terminate. Drill, pay or forfeit. This clause sometimes enables a lessee to defer drilling
