Petroleum in place is the total quantity of petroleum that is estimated to exist originally in naturally occurring reservoirs. Oil-in-place, gas-in-place, bitumen-in-place are defined in the same manner

A petroleum system is a cell which comprises a coherent package of mature source rocks and any existing and/or former primary hydrocarbon accumulations generated there from. The Basin database describes the space/time relationship of the stratigraphic elements essential to the generation and entrapment of these accumulations (such as source rocks, carrier beds, reservoir rocks, seals and over burden) and the attendant geological processes of trap formation, migration, accumulation and preservation

The Petroleum regulations deal, inter alia, with the preliminary permits with priority rights, with the licenses and leases and determine the manner of submitting requests to receive rights, the manner of submitting reports, fees that have to be paid, conditions regarding the blocks, provisions regarding the granting of rights through a competitive bid process and provisions regarding the payment of royalties based on the Petroleum Law

According to the Israeli Petroleum Law, in this register shall be recorded, in such detail as may be prescribed by the regulations, all applications for petroleum rights submitted and all licenses, leases and surface leases granted under this law
