Venting is intentional, passive release of gas to the atmosphere and these are safety precautions.
Venting and flare are safety systems. You can choose to just vent as methane or you can vent it as carbon dioxide by flaring it. It is better environmentally to flare it.
If you vent the gas you have methane if you flare the gas you have CO2.
Because a vent can become a flare the height of the chimneys should be the same and is about 25-30 meters high. Some countries don’t want vents and only want flares

The injection under pressure of a variety of materials into a BOP to seal off upward flow such as in the case of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. At first BP injected mud alone into the well, but then started adding rubber golf balls and scraps to the mud to help block leaks in the well. Some of the junk-shot pieces are fibrous and small, and others are larger rubber balls. The goal of the junk shot is to force-feed the preventer, the device that failed when the disaster unfolded on April 20, 2010 until it becomes so plugged that the oil stops flowing or slows to a relative trickle. That would be followed by a “top kill,” the pumping of heavy mud into the well to overcome the pressure of the rising oil, followed in turn by cement that would permanently seal it.
Exclusive operation means those operations and activities carried out pursuant to a JOA agreement, the costs of which are chargeable to the account of less than all the parties. Exclusive Well means a well drilled pursuant to an Exclusive Operation.
Means any loss, damages, costs, expenses or liabilities caused (directly or indirectly) by any of the following arising out of, relating to, or connected with a JOA agreement or the operations carried out under the JOA such as (i) reservoir or formation damage; (ii) inability to produce, use or dispose of Petroleum; (iii) loss or deferment of income or profit; (iv) business interruption, (v) punitive damages; or (vi) other indirect damages or losses whether or not similar to the foregoing.
