IEA has stated that there is the need for a major decarbonization of the world’s energy system through significant emissions reductions in all regions and technologies breakthroughs. Current energy trends are potentially unsustainable, socially, environmentally and economically. There are three paths for achieving this strategy and from moving away from the business as usual scenario. These include (1) energy efficiency, (2) carbon capture and sequestration and (3) changing the energy mix to more renewable and nuclear. Together, the IEA believes that with these three concepts it is possible to beat global warming.
