These are purpose built LNG tankers than can regasify the LNG gas offshore on their onboard equipment and deliver high-pressure natural gas

The advantage is that the regas facility does not have to be constructed onshore, it has lower construction costs, shorter development period (12–18 months), allowing smaller projects or seasonal markets to develop. & ability to serve a few markets during different seasons.

The major difference between the SRV and FSRU concept is that the FSRU is able to receive cargoes from conventional LNG carriers via a ship-to-ship LNG transfer system, and store the received LNG aboard before regasification and discharge.

The GECF was launched at a meeting of energy ministers in Teheran in May 2001, by the governments of Algeria, Brunei, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Russia and Turkmenistan.

The organisation describes itself as ‘a gathering of the
world’s leading gas producers aimed at representing and promoting their mutual interests’ with the objective of
increasing ‘the level of coordination and strengthen the collaboration between member countries.
