Has been used in the harsh North Sea for offshore loading of crude oil and is now also developed for discharge of natural gas and can be used as an offshore LNG receiving terminal. In this case an LNG regasification vessel connects to the STL buoy and sends vaporized/re-gasified LNG through the flexible riser and eventually on to the metering platform. STL system is divided into two separate systems: the subsea system which is the field related equipment and the STL shipboard system which is the STL related structure and system on board the LNGRV vessel. The STL subsea system comprises the mooring system with anchors, the riser and umbilical system including PLEM (Pipe Line End Manifold). The STL buoy provides the interface with the ship and also provides the connection points for the mooring lines. On top of the buoy is the male part of the gas connector which connects to the female part on board the ship STLB can also be used for CNG vessels
An arc welding process that fuses together the parts to be welded by heating them with one or more electric arcs between one or more bare electrodes and the work piece. The submerged arc welding process utilizes the heat of an arc between a continuously fed electrode and the work. The heat of the arc melts the surface of the base metal and the end of the electrode. The metal melted off the electrode is transferred through the arc to the workpiece, where it becomes the deposited weld metal.
